Relax at the beach

The sandy beaches on Texel are wide, clean and very beautiful. The island is blessed with no less than thirty kilometres of beach. So there is plenty of space on Texel's beach. On the North Sea side, you can swim almost everywhere. Only between posts 31 to 33 is swimming prohibited due to strong currents. All beaches on the island are easy to reach by car or bike.

Guarded beaches

During the summer months, lifeguards are present at many beaches. Lifeguards are there from 9am to 6pm in the evening.

What is there to do on the beach of Texel?

There are many fun activities to do on Texel's beach. Of course you can relax, swim in the North Sea and sunbathe on the beach. But what about a long beach walk? Walking on the beach is not only fun in summer, but a nice breath of fresh air in autumn or winter is also highly recommended.

Other activities on Texel's beach include: kite flying, horse riding, ball sports, land sailing and who makes the most beautiful sand castle? Children often enjoy searching for shells. Many different types of shells can be found on the Texel beach, such as venus shells and the table knife shell.

Which water sports can I do on Texel?

Texel is extremely suitable for water sports such as sailing, boating, surfing, wave surfing, canoeing and kite flying. These sports may be done at posts 9 to 17, 19 to 22, 27 to 28 and 32 to 33. More exciting water sports such as blokarting, kite buggying, kite surfing and multi-line kite flying are allowed north of posts 28 to 32 and between posts 17 and 10. You can take lessons here as well as hire all kinds of equipment.

Can my dog run loose on the beach?

Dogs are welcome on most beaches on Texel. However, dogs must be kept on a leash in certain areas. For example, on the guarded beaches and the nude beach near Den Hoorn and De Cocksdorp. Between 1 March and 1 September dogs must be on the leash at the guarded beaches.

Can I go horseback riding on the beach of Texel?

In the winter period from 1 October to 1 May, you may ride horses anywhere on the beaches of Texel. In the summer period from 1 May to 1 October, you may only ride horses on designated beaches from sunrise to 10 a.m. and from 7 p.m. to sunset. Always read the signs first at the beach where you want to ride horses.

Is it possible to rent a beach house?

It is possible to rent a beach house at the beaches on Texel. The white beach huts are usually for rent for one day or a week.

Are there nudist beaches on Texel?

There are two nudist beaches on Texel. Namely at post 9 (De Hors) and post 27 (Slufter). These beaches are unsupervised.

It is now dangerous to go swimming but also to bathe.

The beach posts are open from the first week of June to the first week of September from 9am to 6pm. The lifeguards are active at beach posts 19, 20, 21 (De Koog) and 28 (De Cocksdorp) and at posts 9, 12, 15 and 17. The lifeguards can be recognised by the orange shirts with the text 'Strandbewaking Texel'.

It is forbidden to go into the sea with an air mattress or swimming-band.
